Kentucky Car Accident Statistics

In Kentucky, car accidents are a daily occurrence.  According to the Kentucky Traffic Collision Facts, there were 150,213 total reported traffic accidents in 2007.  Nearly 125,000 of those accidents were on public roads and there were 26,160 nonfatal injuries.  However, in 2007, 864 people died from traffic collisions in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Traffic Collision Facts report states that approximately one out of every 5,700 Kentucky residents died from a fatal crash on a public road in 2007.  The report also reflects that one in 121 Kentucky residents was injured in a traffic collision in Kentucky.

The 2007 report showed the following interesting facts:

• One out of every 14 drivers licensed in Kentucky was involved in a traffic accident.
• Approximately one out of 2,500 Kentucky drivers was involved in a fatal crash.
• More men died in car accidents than women in 2007 (608 males versus 256 females)
• Twenty-one percent of all people killed in traffic accidents were in the 15 to 24 year old age group

According to the 2007 statistics, the majority of accidents involved a collision with a moving vehicle, which accounted for 81,634 of total collisions.  That same year 23,026 collisions were with fixed objects.  Sixty-six percent of all reported crashes in 2007 involved two or more moving vehicles.
