
All those involved in the wreck were believed to be teenagers, he said.
The person who died was ejected from the vehicle, a Ford Explorer, and pronounced dead at the scene, Mitchell said.
The seven who were injured were transported to Kosair Children's Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
"Apparently the driver lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over several times," Mitchell said. "According to witnesses, they were going at a high rate of speed."
Betty Caudle, 80, said she came upon the wreck on her way to the dog park just minutes after it happened.
"Everything was real quiet," she said. "People were just milling around."
